Battery Life Update

June 13, 2009

Remember this flashy hunk of lithium? MWeston has been testing it in the new prototype Pandora and has got some numbers for us! *Cue MWeston*

I have an EVM for the battery fuel gauge so I can connect that to my laptop and log the battery draining from start to finish through the USB port so it doesn’t matter if the Pandora board shuts down on its own when the battery is empty. I still haven’t done a full charge to empty cycle all at once but the fuel gauge learns the battery profile and was predicting the usual 8.5-9 hours. Since I have run the battery down over a couple of days with my testing, the prediction is accurate as the battery capacity is at or above the rating given by the manufacturer.

Pandora Cube?

Pandora’s Box?

Craig has posted an interesting poll on the forums. He asks us if we would be interested in a “Pandora Cube”. Identical hardware to the Pandora (bar the keyboard, speakers and screen) . You would have to plug in your own controllers and what not, but Craig sees it working as a home entertainment system. He quotes a rough price of $200 – $220, that’s $100 off the current Pandora asking price. The standard definition TV out may put many of you off, considering we live in a high definition age.

Head over to the forum and take a peek, I’m sure Craig is looking for lots of feedback.

May 17, 2009
Posted by: Butterman

Zeq2Lite is a  Quake 3 based Dragon Ball Z multiplayer fighting game in comming to the Pandora. It has been under development for the past few years by MDave (of Kurok fame), he’s hoping to get it ported to the Pandora in time for the Pandies release. (Which won’t be long, the way things are going).

GP32x Forum News

May 1, 2009
Posted by: Butterman

According to WarmFluffyUK on the openhandhelds.org forum, Hando is hard at work on our precious forums at GP32x.

The forum has been upgraded (Obviously) but there has been problems, IPB have sorted out some already but he’s waiting for them to cure the rest, currently the forum works as long as it is offline (No comments please).

News is that Hando has purchased a blog component which means everyone can have their own blog within their own fourm account. I also noticed a calendar too but Hando hasn’t mentioned that yet.

Hando said he’s hoping things will be fixed in a day or two. Please be patient, he’s working real hard here guys.

That blogging component sounds interesting. While it’s obviously going to end up with every other member having his/her own blog, that nobody bothers to read, it will be a decent way for developers (maybe even the Pandora team?) to get their work out to the wider community. Me? I just want these damn forums back up. Now.

Keep checking back here for more up to date information on the status of the forum.

German Blog Update

April 30, 2009
Posted by: Butterman

The GP32x forums are down and we haven’t had any Panda updates in a good while, unrest is brewing. Fortunetly, ED has updated the german blog, while we don’t have a proper translation (if anybody would be kind enough to make one for us, that would be great). We’ve got a quick “free” translation. New translations, thanks polossatik, LastPucho and Lafazar .

“So now I have ask around and I have more info. The TV-out cable is almost finished. The batteries are going into mass production in a short while (running so far with no problems).

The transparent case was sent from the factory to Faith, but it arrived too late (After Faith left for South Korea). That’s why it’s not with Michael (Faith has to mail it on to Michael) . Michael opened an UPS account because the last time they were not able to send him directly the parts because he didn’t have one (UPS account).

He needs some time to work on the TV out cable then work on the small parts – foam for the speakers, microphone, etc. and work together with some coders on the last bits of the drivers (partly pay by us) so in the end phase can completely dedicate to the Pandora. So when the boards are finished, they will be almost production ready and the internals can be tested.

So, it looks like we’ve got another logistics problem and it won’t be resolved until monday. At least, that’s what I’m making out from this poor translation.

We’ve definetly got a logistics problem, that  won’t be solved until monday. It seems MWeston is working on various other components while we wait. Hopefully, he’s been looking for decent components, similar to how he’s handled the TV-out (gold plated, 10ft). Here’s hoping for gold-coated loudspeaker foam!

Thanks for the tip LastPucho.
