Homeworld, Pandora bound

A linux hacker working under the name linuxhacker is raising eyebrows on the internet, with his work-in-progress port of legendary realtime strategy game Homeworld. Those who played it in the day know exactly what all the fuss is about; those who don’t should go and have a bash now. You can follow the saga on both the Homesource Forums and GP32X, as long as you’re not scared of a little techspeak. Or a lot.
Awesomely Awesome!
by Rob April 23, 2009 at 1:25 pmI’m not a big fan of RTS, but I do like Homeworld. Definitely a plus in my book.
by Dauric April 23, 2009 at 1:38 pmBrilliant! Friend of mine swore by this game back in the day, I can’t wait to give it a try. I love anything with spaceships in it really.
by ashdjones April 23, 2009 at 2:00 pmFirst person shooters (Quake 1, 2, 3), turn-based strategy (Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Battle for Wesnoth), casual games (Pandora Panic!), 2D side scrolling shooters (Zomb’d)… and now a port of Homeworld…
(And I’m not counting a ton of other projects)
We only need some adventure games (point and click) and role playing games (console and/or PC style) and we are all set :D!
Thanks a lot, LinuxHacker!
by LastPucho April 23, 2009 at 2:32 pmHOMM2 and Homeworld… I am so glad i preordered! =D
btw, i hate the “Snap” preview thing that pops open over every link on this site. It’s really a pain.
by Tarwin April 23, 2009 at 2:38 pmThis would be the best thing ever.
by AndyL April 23, 2009 at 3:10 pmI’d say this meets the criteria of “good news”.
by Loonie April 23, 2009 at 3:29 pmI gotta agree with LastPucho here, By the time we all get our Pandoras there’s going to be a lot of games for every taste on the little beastie. I’m looking forward to the PS emulator myself. I finally found a used copy of Front Mission 3 (I’m a sucker for giant robots), but I’m barely at home much these days to play it.
by Dauric April 23, 2009 at 3:35 pm@ LastPucho:
by Kaldrill April 23, 2009 at 4:15 pmI think I’ve seen a news which announced that scummvm was available for the pandora so the point & click adventure game is already available.
For RPG we should have diablo when the psx emulator will be out and zelda (or pokemons 🙂 ) with the gb/snes/… emulators
Reality Check : He says he’s still getting “5 seconds per frame” on the big battle in level two.
Let’s hope hope this goes a lot faster once he switches to OpenGLES from software rendering.
(I wonder how the interface will work without right and middle mouse buttons.)
by AndyL April 23, 2009 at 4:15 pmSwitching to 3d accelerated OpenGL/ES will make a rather dramatic difference in speed. Software rendering is always excessively slow.
