Small FCC/CE Update

March 30, 2009
Posted by: Butterman

ED has given us a quick update on the FCC and CE status. For those of you who won’t know, FCC and CE are official certifications that a product has to pass before it can be sold. FCC for the U.S and CE for Europe.

Just phoned with the CE / FCC guys.

Testing does take two days, CE can be done with the CNC prototype, only for FCC the final unit is needed (by american law).

However, as the final case won’t change any of the stuff we need to test to pass, we can be sure that FCC will be fine when we have the CE, so as soon as the final unit is out, it needs about a week after testing to receive the licensing. So US guys might get the unit a bit later, but that’s the american law.

So, this issue doesn’t hold up the CE Testing.

  1. So non-US customers will not have to wait the extra week?

  2. It’s quite possible. It wouldn’t hurt that much, would it?

  3. So this is good news. It will be faster for european users HOORAY from Germany!

  4. Halellujah!
    Can I get an AMEN?!?😉
    good news.

  5. Up yours America! You may have invented the wheel, Pizza, Chinese food and the English language but you’ll have to wait an extra week for your Pandoras!🙂

  6. lol@dynamight they also invented God, the moon and starlight express, though the brits did invert odor eaters

  7. LOL🙂

  8. I assume you meant invent odour eaters. But I like invert much better.

    STINKY SHOES FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!

  9. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that in some circumstances you can self certify for the CE mark. I know a couple of companies that were able to do it for some products. Admittedly not electronic products. Hmm I’ve confused myself.
    🙂

  10. Gotta love the anti-american banter.

  11. Who jammed the stick up your ass? It’s not anti-american, they’re just goofing off. But I guess you were too busy polishing your ‘Don’t blame me, I voted for McCain!’ bumper sticker

  12. Yahoo! These seem very good news.. So the CE won’t take too much… A couple of days seems too optimist but it’s always better than the weeks we expected🙂

    P.S: Pizza doesn’t come from America… It’s Italian
About the chinese food it’s a little different… We can say it was “occidentalized” in America.🙂

  13. lol

  14. Pizza….Italian :O no way…they never told us in school!

btw dont get confused and think the Pandora will be tested in a couple of days then ready to ship, the list still remains the same and i cant see it being shipped till May at the earliest.

  15. “Up yours America! You may have invented the wheel, Pizza, Chinese food and the English language but you’ll have to wait an extra week for your Pandoras! :)”

haha don’t forget we also invented gravity, time, and everything else that wasn’t yet mentioned, if you disagree, you can fight our big bombs.

  16. krooked:
Don’t forget there might be some Chinese Pandora positive people watching. You won’t upset country with roughly exactly 1,321,851,888 citizens, right? They could beat USA just by slapping you with bare hands.😛

  17. The FCC’s brilliance strikes again, as we all know the type of plastic makes a huge difference in RF emissions… Makes me want to go find a copy of Eric Idle’s FCC Song.

  18. I didn’t think imported devices needed to be FCC certified – depending on where the shipping units are assembled and tested, it might technically be an import – that is unless they get some people in the USA to test and assemble them.

  19. @Eso Rimmer
the USA deserves what they got coming to them, claiming we own the world…

    @fischju
i may be completely wrong here, but last i checked the actual units were being assembled in the states.

  20. whoa, chinese food was invented in the US? looks like some of my aunt’s recipes aren’t so original after all.

  21. Uhm… would anyone happen to know if that FCC restriction applies to America as a whole (including South America – I’m from Perú) or just the U.S.A.? A quick google search gave me no relevant results.

Well, in any case, glad to read the updates… we’re getting closer guys!

  22. I believe the USA did invent at least the vacuum cleaner, after all…

  23. I Invented this message

  24. Anon: You forgot Total Gym!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcz0MLLizeY

  25. LastPucho: I’m thinkin’ it’s probably not in Peru. FCC is a regulatory org. in US. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fcc for more information.

  26. @bongo
The only thing worse than american jingoistic pride is american self hatred. WE DESERVE WHAT WE HAVE COMING! No, we don’t deserve anything because a select few in positions of power annoy other countries

  27. Chrysler invented FIAT …. LOL! At least our Alfas will get back to US streets😉

  28. @PoisonedV you really need to go back to your plywood shack and finish your manifesto. Lighten the hell up, get off the devs and take your humorless negative crap to the political blog/forum/bbs/barnyard or your choice.

  29. may anyone “close” this (off) topic before it gets out of hand? uh – maybe it’s too late already…

On topic: good news. it will pass the CE testing, I’m sure🙂

  30. Consider yourself “in your face”‘d, Americans.

    YES

    IN YOUR FACE

    IN YOUR FACE

    Sorry.

  31. pp:
Do you know what FIAT means? FIAT = Fehler In Allen Teile = failure in every piece.😀

Seriously, FIAT is cool. Brother has had 2x Fiat 600, Punto, Coupé and Multipla (the older model) and all were/are good cars.

  32. Wow, what a bunch of Pricks. I was a little disappointed that my order (first 2 minutes) would end up getting to me late due to fcc, and I even understand some “hatred of america” but this thread of comments is crazy.

  33. Rabidpoobear, thanks for the answer. When googling for “FCC Perú” I got weird results like some company websites or history lessons…🙂.

    Well, a week more, a week less… don’t worry (US) guys… it’s (almost) nothing.

And yeah, some of these comments are funny (if you don’t take them seriously), but perhaps it’d be better if we keep those jokes as harmless as possible or don’t make them at all… just for tranquility sake.

    Bye.

  34. @sosilly what the hell are you talking about? I never made mentions of politics, just about the stupid way people act. and what the hell is the thing with the devs? what does this have anything to do with devs of anything?

  35. Disregard that, I suck cocks.
